Questions and answers

What guests ask most often about a private tour with MudShark.

6 questions

Booking and payment

  1. Is the price per person?

No. Each price is for the whole tour: the vehicle and the guide, for up to six guests. VAT is included, and the price is the same whether two or six of you come.

  2. Will anyone else be on our tour?

No. Every tour is private: your own group only, six guests at most, in one Land Rover with Magnús.

  3. How do I book?

Choose a tour, pick a date on its booking page and pay in full by card. The confirmation arrives by email straight away.

  4. When and how do I pay?

In full when you book. The payment is what confirms the booking. On the website you pay by card through Teya, and we never see your card number. Prices and payments are in Icelandic kronas (ISK).

  5. Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel at least 48 hours before departure and you get the full amount back, to the card or account you paid from. Cancellations within 48 hours of departure, and no-shows, are not refunded.

To cancel, reply to your confirmation email or call +354 691 1849.

  6. How late can I book?

Online booking closes 24 hours before departure. For a tour sooner than that, email or call us.

On the day

  1. Where do you pick us up?

From your accommodation in the Hella–Hvolsvöllur region, at no extra cost or in front of the shopping center "Miðjan" at Hella village. If you are staying outside that area, we agree on the pickup point in advance.

Magnús gets in touch the day before to confirm time and place.

  2. Who is the guide?

Magnús H. Jóhannsson, who drives and guides every tour himself. He holds a PhD in botany and ecology and has worked as a researcher on ecological restoration for over 20 years.

  3. What should we wear?

Dress for the weather: warm layers, waterproofs and sturdy shoes. The weather can change several times in one day, in summer too.

  4. Are we insured on the tour?

The vehicle carries the insurance required by law, and it covers passengers. We still recommend that you have your own travel insurance.

2 questions

Weather and seasons

  1. What happens if the weather is bad?

Magnús assesses the weather and the roads on the morning of the tour. He may change the route or shorten the day if safety requires it.

If we cancel because of unsafe weather or road conditions, you choose another date or get a full refund.

  2. When do the tours run?

Each tour has its own season, shown on its page. Some run all year. The highland tours depend on the mountain roads being open.
