Ecosystem tour with a PhD botanist
Iceland is well known for the ice and fire that has sculpted its environment. Mountains, hot springs, volcanoes, glaciers. These are all amazing and astonishing sights. But have you wondered about why there are so few trees? What is the state of our environment? What are the challenges? Are we doing anything about the problems? Is soil erosion a problem? What are wet deserts? Why do they exist? Soil conservation? Ecological restoration? Join us on a 3-4 hour ecotour and learn about these issues.
In this tour we pick you up from hotels in the Hella-Hvolsvöllur area on our Land Rover Super Jeep and show you what this is all about. We visit a number of spots that highlight these issues and end the trip by visiting "Sagnagarður" at Gunnarsholt - a visitor center designed to tell the story of land reclamation in Iceland. The guide is a local expert (Ph.D. in botany) and has years of experience in the field of soil conservation.
